In the city, thousands of young men were gathered to head to the Buddhist areas but they were turned away by a heavy police presence and the crowds of Buddhists were comforted by Buddhist monks.

Around 5 pm Friday, crowds of young Muslim men on motorbikes were seen heading towards to areas southeast of the old moat, close to the site where a Buddhist man named Tun Tun was murdered in Jihad style on Wednesday during clashes with Muslim residents.
