Armed attackers targeted three border posts of Rathedaung and Maung Taw townships in Rakhine State, Sunday morning, killing nine policemen, injuring five, and leaving one missing.

 In a press conference, authorities said 62 assorted arms, 10,130 rounds of ammunition, one bayonet and 27 cartridges of bullets were taken by the attackers in the three incidents. As the surviving attackers retreated, police and troops from the local battalion clearing the area found 13 more weapons that the attackers apparently discarded.

 According to Chief of the Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Zaw Win, the first attack happened on Kyikanpyin Border Post Headquarters in Maungtaw Township, killing six policemen and injuring two.

The second one was in Kotankauk Outpost in Rathedaung Township, killing one policeman and injured two.

 And the last attack was at Ngakhuya Office, where two policemen were killed and another injured. One policeman also remains missing from the incident in this location.

Authorities are still investigating on the cause of the attack but said they could be linked to drug trafficking.
